Treatment of caries in baby teeth and its complications

Primary teeth lay the foundation for the future smile. When they're healthy, a child chews and speaks correctly and smiles confidently. At Belaya Raduga we do everything to make the child feel at ease: we treat gently and patiently, create a friendly atmosphere, put on favourite cartoons, and always give little gifts for being brave.

“Many parents think primary teeth don't need treatment, since they'll be replaced anyway. But it's they that determine how the permanent teeth grow in. With timely help, a child will never know what a toothache is — and will keep their trust in dentists for life.”

What caries of baby teeth is and how to treat it

Caries in children develops faster than in adults because the enamel of baby teeth is thinner and softer. Without timely intervention, the decay quickly reaches the nerve and causes pain or inflammation.

At Belaya Raduga treatment is gentle and calm:

  • digital anesthesia is used for pain relief — no syringe, no unpleasant sensations
  • carious tissue is removed by a microabrasive method, without 'drilling' or vibration
  • the tooth is restored with a light-cured material, safe even for the youngest patients

We always try to keep the tooth alive and avoid unnecessary intervention.

“We always tell children the truth: nothing scary will happen, we'll just clean the little tooth. When a child feels trust, the fear goes away. And then treatment becomes easy — for both the child and the parents.”

Stages of the procedure
Examination and getting acquainted
First the doctor gets to know the child, shows the instruments, explains what will happen, and only then begins treatment.
Diagnostics
We carry out an examination and, if needed, take an X-ray to determine the exact depth of the cavity.
Anaesthesia
We use digital anaesthesia — no injections or unpleasant sensations, so the child feels calm.
Treatment
We gently clean the cavity with a careful method, without noise or vibration, and restore the tooth with a safe material, trying to keep it alive.
Monitoring and rewarding
After treatment we check the bite, explain how to care for the teeth — and always give a gift for being brave.

Patient history

The patient is about 4 years old. The parents came for a consultation with complaints of multiple tooth lesions and the child's pronounced anxiety before treatment. Given the patient's age and the scope of the needed intervention, it was decided to carry out treatment under general anaesthesia.

Treatment

A comprehensive oral rehabilitation plan under general anaesthesia was drawn up. Eight teeth diagnosed with pulpitis in the chewing group were treated and then restored with metal crowns. In the front section, 4 cases of pulpitis were treated and the teeth restored with zirconia crowns. The canines were restored with Enamel composite material. A full functional and aesthetic rehabilitation of the primary teeth was carried out.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

What to do if a child is afraid of dental treatment?
We don't start treatment right away. First we introduce the child to the office, show the instruments, and only then move on to the work.
Can a cavity be treated without drilling?
An inlay fits more precisely, doesn't wear down, and reliably restores the tooth's shape — especially if the damage is large.
Does treating primary teeth hurt?
No. We use digital anaesthesia — the child feels neither the injection nor numbness.
